[T.E.L.L. December Summary] Digital Badges 2

This post contributed by Gina Bennett, College of the Rockies and  SCETUG member.
Peter Rawthorne presented our second T.e.l.l. session this year with a continuation of information about Digital Badges. The session on Tuesday Dec. 11th was the second of two webinars on the topic of Digital Badges, to accompany the rich discussion taking place in SCoPE between Dec 1 – 15.
Once again, Peter Rawthorne presented us with a very informative review of digital badge initiatives. In this second webinar, we began with a survey of a wide variety of badge systems, from the traditional (Scouts, Martial Arts, etc.) to both emerging and established digital systems (Khan Academy, Mozilla, P2PU, etc.). Next, we looked at how these badge systems are implemented: through issuers, authentication mechanisms, display options, and presentation choices by the badge earner. A wide variety of widgets are already available to the badge earner who wants to display badges online. Finally, we considered where the digital badge movement might be going and how badges might be used as a tool to further self-directed, reflective learning. Peter’s presentation was accompanied by a lively discussion in the chat.
The discussion on Digital Badges  continues in SCoPE until December 15. Check out how you can participate.
