[Member Profile] Meet Florence Daddey from JIBC

Tell us a bit about where you work and what you do.
I work at the Centre for Teaching, Learning & Innovation at Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) as an instructional designer, facilitating faculty development activities, and also working as a sessional instructor.
How long have you been involved in teaching and learning and/or ed technology?
I have been involved in teaching and learning for 20 + years but formally using educational technology for 14 years when I decided to pursue a career in instructional design.
How long have you been a member of ETUG?
I attended my first ETUG in the Fall of 2006 at BCIT when I worked at Thompson Rivers University.
What’s one thing you really love about the work you do?
I love the opportunity to teach, learn, and advocate – contributing in my own small way in advancing education. I also love the amazing group of innovative and talented people I work with.
What do you like best about this community and its activities?
ETUG is such a great community! It’s local! I like the demonstrations, sharing and opportunity to learn about new tools and ideas in education technology/teaching and learning. Connecting with colleagues and engaging in various conversations.
Do you have a favorite ETUG memory?
When ETUG community was invited to Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops in 2007. I have lots of fun memories as a host (employee of TRU at the time).
What would you like ETUG to provide more of in terms of benefits/value to members? Any input or help you want to ask members to provide?
ETUG provides a lot of great professional development opportunities and I love that they are always trying to be innovative and creative. The Fall 2018 ETUG at Emily Carr University was a typical example of trying new things and changing it up. It was a fun day! Thank you!
Do you have any special interests/hobbies?
Lately advocating for the use of open education resources and open textbooks, gardening, and engaging more in writing and blogging.
