[T.e.l.l. February Summary] What Is Open Pedagogy?

Contributed by Julian Prior, Langara College
On February 27, Marianne Gianacopoulos from Langara College joined us to share her initial explorations in using a teaching model based on open pedagogy. Working primarily with international students Marianne faced the following challenges:

  • how to guide students away from traditional learning methods to a model of independent learning
  • how to cope with differing levels of digital literacy and access to technology and resources amongst her students
  • how to move away from the restrictive nature of the LMS and embrace the open web in her teaching

By adopting a more open approach, Marianne found that her students were starting to become active and critical creators and co-creators of knowledge.
Marianne goes into more depth in the webinar discussing some of the web tools she used with her students and some of the challenges she faced.
