[Member Profile] Meet Monique Brewer from Camosun College

Tell us a bit about where you work and what you do.

I’m an instructional designer at Camosun College. I support instructors who are creating blended and online courses to understand how to use learning technologies as part of their instructional practices.

How long have you been involved in teaching and learning and/or ed technology?

I’ve been involved in teaching and education technology for 20+ years.  I started teaching high school English as part of a “computer immersion” program in the 90s, before I could even conceive of an LMS, and have since had the opportunity to work in a variety of technology-related training and development projects across public, private, and post-secondary institutions.

What’s one thing you really love about the work you do?

Most of all, I love the variety in this type of work. No two projects are ever the same and the technology is always evolving. I’m always learning and engaged in my work and I get to meet and work with really interesting people.

How long have you been a member of ETUG?

I don’t really know – I have attended a number of ETUG events over of years.

What do you like best about this community and its activities?

The community and activities help to pull me out of the day-to-day activities of my work to get broader perspective. It’s helpful to see how others approach the same work and to keep a pulse on trends and developments in our industry and sector.

What would you like ETUG to provide more of in terms of benefits/value to members? Any input or help you want members to provide?

I enjoy the opportunity to connect face-to-face with others who do the same work  so continue with the conferences.

Do you have any special interests/hobbies?

I love to travel and have been to some out-of-the-way places, from the Masai Mara in Kenya to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. I’m also happy to putter around in my vegetable garden here in Victoria and walk the beaches with my husband and dog.
