As ETUG celebrates 25 years, we are taking the opportunity every Friday to dig into our archives and celebrate our 25-year history. Today’s Flashback Friday continues back in time to the years 2011 and 2012.

It’s 2011!

In Spring of 2011, SCETUG, chaired by the Amanda Coolidge and Grant Potter, led the way into the wilds of open with an adventurous trek to the Kootenays and a workshop on the theme “Open4Learning” at Selkirk College, Nelson campus. The road to this ETUG is nicely documented by Grant Potter and Jason Toal in this video vignette.
Alan Levine aka @Cogdog shared his “Amazing Stories of Openness” along with a call for video submissions on “the value of openness” in a first ever ETUG crowdsourced-keynote.
ETUG was experimenting with graphic recording for our workshop harvests and Alan’s keynote was captured by Michelle Laurie, Sylvia Currie and Rachel Roussin.
The pub night was held at Hume Hotel where all eyes were fixed on the TV as the Canucks played in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. Video recordings of most sessions were archived and are still available today! But most memorable of all was the music-infused closing session “Can You Dig It?” on the Digital Storytelling 106 (DS106) course facilitated by Brian Lamb, Jason Toal and Grant Potter. We’ve dug up this little treasure video recording and live audio recording of this funky ETUG first.

For the Fall 2011, we showed our more creative and reflective side. “You are here: Supporting Mindful Journeys in our Practice” was held at KPU, Richmond campus. ETUG participants found themselves meditating, drawing, and learning about improvisation. See these fabulous photos of the workshop by Novak Rogic, as well as these pics and video recap.

It’s 2012!

Inspired by the annual Horizon Report, the Spring 2012 focussed ETUGgers on the theme of “Innovation: What’s on Your Horizon?”. Hosted at Vancouver Community College, Downtown campus, the workshop keynote was self-described digital explorer Alexandra Samuel from Emily Carr University and company Social Signal. SCETUG organized live streaming of the event through ETUG106 Radio, a passion project led by Grant Potter, Jason Toal and Kyle Hunter and other fearless ETUGgers. Here are a few of the recordings of the workshop including the keynote Alexandra Samuel, a live audio recording of the Spring workshop on ETUG106, as well as some on-the-spot interviews of workshop participants. Noteworthy at this workshop was our use of electronic badging and cool swag : ETUG sunglasses.

In Fall 2012, the SCETUG Chairship was taken on by kele fleming and the workshop on “Learning Spaces, spaces to Learn” was hosted at BCIT, Downtown. Session topics included the new Camosun Learning Commons, Virtual Learning Environments at TRU, a panel on moocs, and “Can we talk? Unpacking Identity in space”.
