[Fall workshop 2017] Digital Spaces: Pressing Buttons, Pushing Boundaries

The Educational Technology Users Group invites you to join us for the ETUG Fall workshop 2017 on October 27 at VCC in downtown Vancouver. We will explore Digital Literacy in this new era of online uncertainty. Seeking truthiness, real news, and actual facts in the world of Teaching and Learning. Do these even exist?
This engaging day will provide participants with an informative and inspiring opportunity to seek out bold new ideas on what it means to be a digital citizen and how digital literacy fits into this process. We will explore topics such as:

  • Building competencies to become classroom content creators
  • Supporting capacity building amongst instructors and students in a range of technologies, media, contexts, and genres.
  • Promoting strategies for fact-checking, ethical reporting, and mobile journalism
  • Fostering inclusion in education systems (ensuring all students become digitally competent and not just the lucky few)
  • Engaging and assisting instructors in making the shifts to open participatory classrooms

Keynote – Six Traps of Online Information Literacy (and a few solutions)

ETUG is pleased to present Mike Caulfield as our Keynote speaker for the Fall workshop. Mike will present on the “Six Traps of Online Information Literacy (and a few solutions),” to be followed by a workshop on the concepts covered therein.

Pecha Kucha

A few members of our EdTech community have been chosen to deliver a lightening round of Pecha Kucha talks to further our discussions on this theme, as well as to hear how BC education community is dealing with our brave new world.
If you have a pecha kucha pitch that fits the theme, and would like to share a 6-minute presentation (exactly 20 slides displaying for 20 seconds each) and facilitate a small group table discussion, contact us (Emily Renoe, emily.renoe@ubc.ca) about getting on the schedule. We have limited space available. Read more about Pecha Kuchas here.
Please join us at VCC on October 27, 2017. Here are the REGISTRATION and ACCOMMODATION details.
