Meet Helen Lee of JIBC

Tell us a bit about where you work and what you do.
I currently work at JIBC as Program Manager, Instructional Design (filling in for Melanie Meyers as her maternity leave replacement).  I work on course design projects in Blackboard, the main LMS here at JIBC as well as WordPress.
How long have you been involved in teaching and Learning and ed technology?
I have been involved in teaching and educational technology informally for 9 years.  I started off with producing educational videos online when I worked in communications.  Then I decided to pursue a career in learning technology and instructional design.
What’s one thing you really love about the work you do?
I consider myself a bit of a tech geek so what I really love about the work I do is being able to explore all the different technology that is out there.  To play with new technology just makes me feel like a kid all over again.
How long have you been a member of ETUG?
I became a member of ETUG in 2012 when I joined Royal Roads University as Learning Technologist.
What do you like best about this community and its activities?
I love the ETUG community because we do some pretty awesome things at our institutions and ETUG is a great platform to showcase some of these work where all of us come together to exchange ideas and collaborate.
Do you have a favorite ETUG memory?
My favorite ETUG memory was back in 2013 where I presented Mozilla Popcorn Maker as a hands-on workshop.  It was my first time presenting at ETUG and I think everybody had a good time playing with the tool.
What would you like to ETUG provide more of in terms of benefits/value to members? Any input or help you want to ask members to provide?
ETUG does some pretty amazing stuff already!  If I think if anything I’ll let the team know.  🙂
Do you have any special interests/hobbies?
Outside of work, I volunteer to #teachtheweb as a Mozilla Rep and Webmaker mentor at community learning events.  I am also the co-founder of Vancouver Hive Learning Community, which is a collaboration between organizations and individuals that brings together educators, technologists and mentors with institutions to design innovative, self-led digital learning experiences for youth and marginalized groups.
