Meet Meghan Moore from Camosun College
This post is contributed by Emily Schudel, Camosun College and SCETUG member.
Tell us a bit about where you work and what you do.
I’m an instructional designer and team lead of the Distributed Education unit within the Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning at Camosun College. Working closely with faculty and staff, our team of instructional designers assist with the planning, analysis, design, development, learning management system (LMS) integration, assessment and evaluation of courses at Camosun. We also educate faculty and staff on appropriate use of educational technologies while providing direction regarding the course design and development process.
How long have you been involved in teaching and learning and educational technology?
I’ve been involved in teaching, learning and educational technology for the last 15 years in various capacities including college administrator, instructor, elearning specialist, instructional designer and training director. I found my first online experience as a post-grad student to be very disappointing. The course was poorly designed and the instructor was uncomfortable with using educational technology. I realized the online experience for both students and instructors had so much potential and decided to deep dive into the field to learn more about instructional design and educational technology. I knew it could be so much better.
What’s one thing you really love about the work you do?
I love making an impact and watching instructors transform their teaching practice. The possibilities are limitless when we begin to design for experience, not just for a course or program.
How long have you been a member of ETUG?
I believe this is my second month as an official member of ETUG.
What do you like best about this community and its activities?
I think the community is wonderful for connecting practitioners in the field in a meaningful and thoughtful way. It is also great to learn what other institutions are up to, share ideas and discuss solutions to challenges we face while supporting teaching and learning in an online context.
Do you have a favorite ETUG memory?
I’m still very new. I’ve presented at ETUG but have never had the opportunity to attend as a participant or committee member. I’m looking forward to it.
What would you like ETUG to provide more of in terms of benefits/value to members?
I can’t think of anything but will let you know. J
Do you have any special interests/hobbies?
My 3 year old daughter is my major hobby. I live vicariously through her and try to enjoy every minute. Life is so precious.
Is there anything special you want to ask or share with members?
Thank you for welcoming me into the committee and I look forward to getting to know each of you over the next year.
