We welcome proposals from faculty, staff and students to facilitate a session at this year’s Spring Workshop.
Innovation – a buzzword, but what does it really mean? How do you incorporate new ideas, tools and methods into your practice as an educator, instructional designer, educational technologist or student?
This spring’s ETUG event invites you to explore “Innovation: What’s on Your Horizon?” and consider the following four streams. As these are guiding questions and suggestions, feel free to add to these ideas:

1. Innovative Teaching and Learning Practices

Share innovative techniques and approaches in your teaching and learning. What’s your context and experience?
Designing for innovation: How do you design courses to allow for innovation? What challenges do you face in incorporating new practices into courses? Share your stories of success and/or challenges.
Assessment: Are you involved in any innovative approaches to assessment? Have you tried to implement any authentic assessment strategies in your practice? Share your experiences with others.
Professional Learning: How do you and your institution provide formal and informal opportunities for faculty and staff to share innovative practices and success stories? What’s your (or your institution’s) strategy for building capacity?

2. Innovative use of Educational Technology

What educational technologies are you using now? Blogs, wikis, voice threads, mobile or tablet computing, e-books? Don’t worry if your idea is not a new invention: share techniques that are new to your context. How did you implement the new technology? What were the results of your experiment?
What impact has your use of innovative educational technology had on student learning? What strategies do you or your institution use to measure impact on student learning?
If you work in a support area, how do you support the use of innovative technology (by both instructors and students)? Share any tips, plans, etc. you have!

3. Cultivating Innovation

How we can be innovative in the new world of sharing with our heightened awareness to issues related to privacy?
How we can be innovative within institutional parameters (i.e., being innovative in spite of barriers or existing systems?)
What conditions are conducive to innovation? How can we create an environment to encourage innovation, collaboration, and experimentation? What tools, attitudes, and approaches have worked for you?

4. The Future

The annual Horizon Report features emerging trends and challenges. What trends are you going to be exploring or implementing? (i.e., from The 2012 Horizon Report: mobile apps, tablet computing, game-based learning, learning analytics, gesture-based computing, or the internet of things). Share what you’ve learned!
Being mindful of innovation: when should we (or even should we) jump on the bandwagon? Do you have some good advice or best practices to share?
How are you planning for innovation and supporting it? How do you build educational experiences in a way that allows for change and flexibility? For sustainability?
Do you have news of future innovations from your institution to share? Are you seeking partners for collaborative projects?

A note about recordings 

Photographs, audio and video recordings will be taken at the ETUG workshop and published online and in print materials under the Creative Commons Attribute 2.5 Canada.  If you have any questions, please contact Leva Lee.

Expenses

BCcampus/ETUG is pleased to cover registration costs for session facilitators and travel and accommodation expenses for lead facilitators traveling within BC but outside of the Metro Vancouver area. Note that coverage will be for the primary facilitator for sessions with more than one facilitator (with the exception of panel discussions).
