This fall you are invited to the Little (Work) Shop of Horrors as we share tales of failures, flops and edtech experiments gone bad. As a grassroots driven community, one of our key strengths is our ability to share practical experience and what we’ve learned hacking, tinkering, experimenting – and failing. Join us on Friday, October 28th at the Centre for Digital Media, our partners in offering this workshop, and get ready to hear about “tricks”, “treats”, missteps, and lessons learned by members of B.C.’s Educational Technology community.
Our morning session will begin with our keynote, Audrey Watters, education writer, independent scholar, and self-proclaimed “rabble rouser”. She has published a collection of her public talks in The Monsters of Education Technology and The Revenge of the Monsters of Education Technology, as well as a book arguing that students should control their digital identities and digital work, Claim Your Domain. She is currently writing her next book, Teaching Machines. You can read more about Audrey and her work on her blog Hack Education.
Audrey’s keynote will be followed by a series of lightning sessions as community members share tales of fails and edtech experiments.
In the afternoon, there will be a variety of posters and demos for you to visit, a veritable offering of “tricks” and “treats” where you can learn some new hacks, experiment and experience some hands-on sessions and excellent networking opportunities.
The day will wrap with a plenary session facilitated by Patrick Pennefather, “designer of interactive experiences”, actor and faculty at the Centre for Digital Media. You can learn more about Patrick on his blog.
The cost of the ETUG Fall workshop is $100 + taxes and includes continental breakfast, lunch, refreshments and sessions for the day. Here is our schedule for the day.
